Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia. Established in 1773, it is separated from South Carolina by the Savannah River. It is now the fifth largest city in Georgia and the third largest metropolitan area. Each year it attracts millions of visitors to its cobblestoned streets, parks such as Forsyth Park shaded by century old oak trees covered in Spanish moss, horse-drawn carriages and historic antebellum architecture. Savannah’s vibrant downtown area includes the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian District and 22 park-like squares. It is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States. Currently, Savannah is home to nearly 30 Fortune 500 companies, six university systems, major medical facilities and the Georgia Ports of Authority. It is becoming a favored locale to the entertainment industry.
